At Community Housing, we understand that domestic abuse affects people from all walks of life, and we're here to support you. We take all forms of domestic abuse seriously and are committed to helping anyone experiencing abuse in a caring and proactive way.
Domestic abuse occurs between people aged 16 or over who are personally connected to each other. This includes:
Abuse can take many forms. It might be physical violence, but it can also be emotional pressure, financial control, online harassment or other controlling behaviours. We also recognise specific forms of abuse including honour-based violence, forced marriage and female genital mutilation.
We know that reaching out for help takes immense courage. When you contact us about domestic abuse, you'll speak with trained staff who understand the sensitivity of your situation. We believe in listening without judgement and working at your pace. If you prefer to speak with someone of the same gender or cultural background, or need any communication support, just let us know.
Your safety and security in your home are paramount to us. Recent changes in the law have given us more power to protect victims of domestic abuse while dealing with perpetrators. If you share a tenancy with someone who is abusing you, we can help you understand your options. This might include getting a new tenancy in your own name or finding alternative safe accommodation if that's what you prefer.
When you come to us, we'll develop a support plan that works for you. We understand that every situation is unique, and there's no one-size-fits-all solution. We have strong partnerships with specialist support services and can connect you with experts who provide targeted help. Whether you need advice, practical support, or someone to listen, we'll be there every step of the way.
Your safety is our priority. If you report domestic abuse to us, we will:
We understand that trust and confidentiality are crucial. When you share your story with us, we treat your information with the utmost care and sensitivity. We only share information with other agencies with your consent, making an exception only if we believe a child or vulnerable adult is at immediate risk.
If you're experiencing domestic abuse or are worried about someone who is, please reach out to us. All conversations will be handled with complete confidentiality and sensitivity.
