Wyre Forest MP, Mark Garnier attended a celebration ceremony at the former school site at Wribbenhall, Bewdley to mark the commencement of building works for 46 new affordable homes.
The £4.5m development programme is being built by Wyre Forest Community Housing (part of The Community Housing Group) who received a grant of £2.4m from The ‘Homes and Communities Agency’ (HCA) The development will consist of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes for rent and sale and is being constructed by ‘Kier Partnership Homes’.
Wyre Forest Community Housing’s Managing Director, Yvonne Leishman, said “We are delighted that work is underway, thanks to the support and funding from the HCA. The new homes will be built to Lifetime standards and meet all of the requirements for modern family living. We are particularly keen to help families to save energy costs so we have made sure that the new homes are extremely energy efficient. Of the 46 homes, 35 will be for rent and 11 will be for shared ownership, aimed at helping first time buyers on lower incomes to move into home ownership”.
Paul Spooner, Regional Director for the HCA West Midlands added “The HCA is committed to investing in local communities and providing people with access to good quality affordable homes. We are delighted that our investment has enabled Wyre Forest Community Housing in partnership with Wyre Forest District Council and Worcestershire County Council to deliver these much needed homes in Bewdley”.
