On Saturday 8th April, Wribbenhall residents gathered to celebrate the re-opening of Shaw Hedge Road play area.

The event in Bewdley was in recognition of the new play and gym equipment that had been added to the existing playground.

Bewdley and District Tenants Consultative Committee held a consultation a while back which highlighted the need for good quality play facilities for children and young people in the Wribbenhall area. This consultation event included a number of children and young people from the local area, who took part in discussions to choose their preferred equipment.

The sun was shining at the official re-opening, which saw lots of local families and children attend to enjoy the new equipment. A variety of entertainment was also on offer for the guests including, face painting, an egg hunt, bouncy castle and free burgers, hotdogs and ice creams. A great day was had by all.

The Committee was allocated £2000 funding from Bewdley District Council, £2000 from Wyre Forest District Council, £3000 from Wyre Forest Community Housing and raised another £4,000 from the Area Improvement Money (AIM) fund.

The £11,000 raised paid for a play train for children, an outdoor gym, which contains five pieces of low impact, resistance-based equipment suitable for young people from the age of 8 to adults of any age. The gym equipment includes a single rower, chin up bars, a combo pull down chest press, a seated leg press and parallel bars. The gym equipment will be available for free use by all members of the local community, young and old, and will enable users to exercise and have fun whether they’re out walking the dog or enjoying the park with friends and family.
