Wyre Forest Community Housing’s Neighbourhood Wardens joined Vestia Community Trust (part of The Community Housing Group) and Baxter Business and Enterprise College to host an event which was designed to send a positive message to dog owners.
Over 30 dog owners turned up to ‘Bark in the Park’ at the Oldington and Foley Park Y Centre on Saturday 9th July, and the event was also attended by MP for Wyre Forest, Mark Garnier.
Part of the event was to encourage dog owners to clean up after their dog. The students at Baxter College were very concerned about the high levels of dog mess they come across on a daily basis. The Neighbourhood Wardens helped dog owners understand the importance and legal responsibility of cleaning up after their dog.
Students at Baxter College had been raising funds through sponsorship which enabled 10 dogs to be micro-chipped free of charge. A local vet was also on hand to give out information and advice. Every owner is legally obliged to ensure their dog is wearing a collar and identification disk. However, micro-chipping is now recognised as the most effective and secure way of permanently identifying a pet. A unique identification number is registered to the animal and the owner's details are placed on a national database.
