'Tea and talk' events bringing together generations

The Community Housing Group hosted two "tea and talk" events to bring children and older residents together to share their experiences of growing up in Wyre Forest.

Kidderminster and Stourport libraries supported the events at Broomy Close, Stourport and Purcell House, Kidderminster with displays of old maps, photographs and memorabilia.

Residents brought old toys, photographs and items from the Second World War and children demonstrated their modern games and electronic toys.

The events formed part of The Community Housing Group’s 10 year anniversary celebrations and incorporates their theme for 2010 which is "to celebrate diversity and promote equality in all parts of their business".

Yvonne Leishman, managing director for Wyre Forest Community Housing and the Group’s equality champion, said: "We feel that events such as these help to improve communication and relationships between the generations as well as helping to keep such a vibrant and colourful local history alive".

The success of the events has prompted the Group to run extra sessions at their sheltered housing schemes throughout the year which will be open to residents and non residents.
