TECS join with Platform to improve the way technology is used within their homes

The TECS team has been involved in a new project which aims to improve the way technology is used in housing and care for older people. The TAPPI (Technology for our Ageing Population: Panel for Innovation) project is aimed at ensuring that technology is used effectively to ensure older and disabled people can live independently in their own homes. The project looks how technology can be incorporated into housing to improve life for our ageing population.

As part of this project, the team was approached by Platform Housing Group, who are one of the largest housing associations in the Midlands, to support them as their TEC partner.  All the tenants, located at Harling Court in Ledbury, met the team and a face-to-face TEC assessment was undertaken to see how Assistive Technology could support these tenants to be able to remain as independent as possible in their own homes.

Following these assessments, we arranged a showcase event on 2 March 2023 to allow these tenants to see the equipment before committing and ask any questions. After this, each resident was provided with a tablet to allow them to slowly learn how TEC can help support them, along with support from on-site staff. 42 tablets have been provided; one to each flat at the extra care facility at Harling Court and also one for the on-site staff.

The team will be implementing further TEC equipment at a later stage, to include Falls Detectors, Motion Lights, Tipper Kettles, GPS Trackers, Bed Sensors and DDA Kits.

Daniel Rock, TAPPI Project Worker commented: “This is a fantastic opportunity for residents to use this equipment and help them to remain independent for as long as possible. I will be supporting them to get connected and slowly start to use them for daily tasks.”
