Olympic Torch Success for Robin

Robin JarvisWe are delighted that our colleague Robin Jarvis has been selected, out of thousands of hopefuls, to carry the Olympic Torch through Callow Hill, Bewdley.

Robin, who works in The Community Housing Group’s Payroll team, is one of three people who will carry the flame through the area along the A456 from the Cleobury Road junction on Thursday 24th May from 3:15pm.

Robin has been taking part in fundraising runs and hill walks to raise money for various charities for the past 28 years. It was his dedication to use his passion for running and exercise to raise money for vital causes that inspired his granddaughter, Amy to nominate him to carry the Torch.

Robin has run numerous marathons and half marathons across the UK, and even took part in the New York City Marathon in 1995. Each event
has resulted in Robin raising hundreds and at times thousands of pounds for charities and hospitals, including Kemp Hospice, the Children’s Hospital for Wales and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital was the lucky recipient of two new orthopaedic beds from Robin’s fundraising efforts during 1987, after the hospital treated his wife, two of his children and himself, after a serious road accident in 1986.

Robin said: “Carrying the Olympic Torch is a great honour and will rank as my best ever achievement. It will give my five children and six grandchildren something to aim for”.
