This week, from 27 to 31 October, is Pension Credit Week of Action. It’s a national campaign encouraging older people to check if they could get Pension Credit - extra money to help with everyday living costs.
Many people who are entitled to Pension Credit don’t realise they can claim it. Even a small amount can make a big difference and can open the door to other kinds of help.

Clearing Up the Myths
Many people miss out on Pension Credit because they think they won’t qualify. Here are some common myths - and the truth.
“I won’t get it because I own my home.”
You can still get Pension Credit even if you’re a homeowner. Almost half of people who claim it own their homes.
“I have savings, so I won’t get anything.”
You can still get Pension Credit if you have some savings or a small pension. The first £10,000 of savings is ignored.
“It’s not worth it for a small amount.”
Even a small amount of Pension Credit can give you access to other help, such as reduced bills, housing support or a free TV licence.
“It’s too difficult to claim.”
It’s easier than you might think. You can apply online, by post or with a free phone call. The Pension Service can also help you apply for other benefits you may be entitled to.
Why It Matters
Across Great Britain, around 1.4 million households already receive Pension Credit but many more could qualify. The average payment is over £83 per week, which adds up to more than £4,300 a year.
