National Apprenticeship Week at The Community Housing Group

Apprentice - Sam MachinThe seventh annual National Apprenticeship Week will take place from 3-7 March 2014 and looks set to be our biggest and best yet at The Community Housing Group.

This year we are taking part in part in the Brathay Apprenticeship Challenge to become Apprentice Team of the Year. The challenge tests team-building, logistical and communication skills together with leadership qualities in a series of work based tasks. If they reach the regional heats in April, they stand a chance of winning the 3 day battle for the title in June.

So far, the team have taken part in events to raise awareness of the benefits of apprenticeships, talked to school children about career opportunities available and will be starting a practical project to create a sensory garden for a local school. They are also doing skills based demonstrations at the Wyre Forest Apprenticeship & Skills Show on 5th March from 1pm at Kidderminster Town Hall.

We support a wide range of apprenticeships, aimed at offering career opportunities, particularly to school leavers and young people. Unfortunately apprenticeships are not available to Graduates. Opportunities at TCHG include apprenticeships in construction, IT, finance, business administration, customer serviceand health & social care.

In 2013, The Community Housing Group was named as the West Midlands’ best apprenticeship Employer (Large Employer category) and our Vestia Training Officer, Karen Lowry-Hall was the West Midlands Apprentice Champion of the Year.
