Helping new tenants before they move in

Pre-Tenancy training has now commenced and a pilot session was held on 25th  July at Foley Grove with a range of tenants and household types, some of whom have recently moved in and some who are shortly to become tenants. The training was put together by Housing Management staff working with staff from Vestia

The half-day session covers important aspects of the tenancy such as:

  • What a Starter Tenancy is and how it is monitored before becoming Assured

  • Tenants’ rights and responsibilities and neighbourliness

  • The company’s responsibilities towards tenants

  • What happens when things go wrong, for example when they can’t pay rent or cause a nuisance

  • The aim of Pre-Tenancy training is to ensure that all tenants receive an equal understanding of their agreements with us and have equal opportunities for access to services and support to make a success of their tenancies.

We have already had feedback from the session from people who had already gone through the key issue process a short while ago and they thought the training was a very positive move and an improvement on the current process. We have also had feedback from the delegates who experienced the key issue after the training and they expressed to the  Officers  how useful  the  training  was.  Officers  and  Neighbourhood  Wardens  also reported back as to how much easier it was to complete the key issues as a lot of the time consuming and complex information that needs to be conveyed had already been done. The training is due to become compulsory and undertaking it a condition of the offer of a property with us.
