Debbie pursues her caring side

Debbie Preece
After being a stay at home mum for 22 years, mother of 5, Debbie Preece, decided it was time to get back into work and pursue her dream of a career in care.

Debbie had spent four years at college gaining qualifications to enable her to enter the care sector and was looking forward to gaining experience in front line care, hopefully leading to a career in care management.

Debbie was referred to Vestia’s 'Care and Support' Sector Based Work Academy, which carried the possibility of a learner being appointed as a Care and Support worker Apprentice with The Community Housing Group.

After completing the course and a period of work experience with the Care and Support Team, Debbie was successful at interview and offered the job. Debbie started with Care and Support24 in September and is now working towards her Level 2 Apprenticeship.

Debbie said of the course: "I learnt more during the 9 days with Vestia than the whole time I've been looking for work. Support from the tutors was and continues to be outstanding”, she goes on to say, “The most important thing I have learnt was how to sell myself in interviews and on a C.V. and now have some invaluable skills.”
