Ageing Well in Worcestershire

Over 50's

A new draft strategy for people aged 50 years plus has been developed by a partnership of statutory, voluntary and private sector organisations alongside public representatives. The strategy is focused on a wide range of health, care and support services that support the health and wellbeing of people. It places emphasis on the importance of people taking personal responsibility for their own health and wellbeing, and aims to offer help to all people aged 50 years and over to meet their personal care and support needs in the most effective way.

The priorities for service development that the strategy will support are:

  • assessment, information and advice
  • self care support
  • low level support at home and in the community
  • supported housing services, including extra care
  • re-ablement support
  • mental wellbeing and dementia care
  • person centred long term care

A four month public consultation on the new strategy is currently being held to provide everyone the opportunity to formally give their views. This consultation period is due to finish at the end of September 2011.

As part of this consultation the Joint Commissioning Unit at Worcestershire County Council has set up the opportunity with Wyre Forest Community Housing to hear the views of their residents and the wider local community on the draft strategy.

This consultation event is taking place in Kidderminster on Wednesday 24 August 2.30pm – 4pm at Arch Hill Court, Orchard Street, Kidderminster, DY10 2JA.

This event is open for people to attend without booking a place but if you would like to know more please contact Keith Hoare of the Worcestershire Joint Commissioning Unit on 01905 822631 or at khoare@worcestershire.gov.uk.
