Miss X was affected by the Overall Benefit Cap , reducing her entitlement from full  Housing Benefit to just 50p a week.  She didn’t know how to get help and soon, rent arrears started to build up.  Fortunately, Our Income Management team spotted what was happening and signposted her to Citizens Advice and the local Council’s Financial Inclusion Officer for a Discretionary Housing Payment and payment plan to prevent future rent arrears.  This may not have been the case if she was in private rented accommodation and so her TCHG tenancy ensured that her family was safe and she could take control of her life.
