Digital Success within ILS Schemes

Successful candidates holding their certificates and their tutors

In 2019, we decided to work directly with all our ILS Schemes (Independent Living Schemes) to bring Computer Training and Digital Skills to our senior citizens within the individual schemes. This has proved to be a great success and the feedback and comments we have received back from customers and staff has been very positive and encouraging.

Staying local - One of the reasons the courses have proved to be so popular and successful is because we take the training to our customers by using the recreational and community rooms available within the schemes. Customers have said that being able to learn in familiar, safe and relaxed surroundings is so important. We work very closely with our Care and Support teams to deliver courses that are adapted where possible to suit the individual needs of our customers.

Confidence - Staff and customers have reported that confidence levels have gone through the roof and they have been so excited waiting for the next weeks course to come around that they have been accessing devices available either within the schemes or out in the community. Customers have been able to enjoy the facility to send and receive emails, access their account details via MYaccount and even video call each other.

Feedback - We thought it would be nice to share some of the lovely comments, feedback and photos taken within the various schemes when they were receiving their well-earned certificates. I would also like to take this opportunity to say “Well done” to everyone who took part in one of our many courses this year and for your hard work and dedication, you should be so proud of yourselves for what you have achieved.

Looking forward to 2020 - The ‘Free’ Computer Training Courses will continue into 2020 and will be available to all our Customers/Residents throughout the Wyre Forest. Comments from our students of class 2019

"I have really enjoyed being on the course and I now feel a lot more confident to go on a computer or my phone to access the internet.  This has opened a whole new world for me. Thank you so much!"

"I have enjoyed mixing with the other students and learnt a lot. Thank you for making me a more confident computer user."

"Excellent hands-on course; it allowed me to use a computer with guidance and confidence. Would now like to continue learning as I have enjoyed it so much. Thank you!"

"Enjoyed the course and want to continue learning. I was very impressed with the tutor and his style of training, having a 1-2-1 volunteer available to help was also extremely helpful."

"I have really enjoyed the course and my confidence has grown enough that I am now considering putting everything I have learnt into practice and purchasing my own computer. I would certainly be interested in continuing with another more advanced course soon so that I don’t forget what I have learnt."

"Excellent course would like to continue learning."

"Although I had some knowledge of computers and using them, I didn’t feel safe when going on the internet. However, I was shown how to access information and stay safe. I have learnt lots of new things and would really like to do another course."
