Community Housing joined in supporting Hate Crime Awareness week which ran from 8-15 October 2022.

Hate crimes are any crimes that are targeted at a person because of hostility or prejudice towards that person’s:

·         disability

·         race or ethnicity

·         religion or belief

·         sexual orientation

·         transgender identity

They can be committed against a person or property and a victim does not have to be a member of the group at which the hostility is targeted. In fact, anyone could be a victim of a hate crime. 

Community Housing want to overcome barriers to reporting, we understand the reluctance to come forward and there are many reasons that can cause this as well as a number of key factors that can increase the risk of being targeted.

True Vision is a national police scheme to help victims report hate crime online.

Other help
We understand that you may not be ready to talk about what has happened. The charities, groups and organisations below can offer support, advice and ways to report the incident without having to talk directly to the police.

Prevents the exploitation of people with learning disabilities by those claiming to be their friends.
