Directors of Community Housing with the Chair of the NHF

We were really pleased to host a visit from Maggie Galliers, Chair of the National Housing Federation (NHF) and Kate Warburton, External Affairs Manager at the NHF to some of our development sites on 2nd July 2024.

They were interested to hear about the challenges faced by social housing landlords, including funding, planning and the importance of involving customers in decisions made about their communities.

On the tour, we visited the Hurcott Road high rise blocks and spoke about the future plans for the site.

We then looked at The Walshes estate to discuss some of the challenges faced with regeneration of a “Radburn” style estate (with homes facing one another over communal spaces) including parking, using the courtyards next to the low rise flats and how best to design out anti-social behavior opportunities.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Walshes Community Cafe and Foodshare, prepared by Velda McMillan and her team of volunteers and there was an opportunity for Maggie to chat with local residents.

The tour concluded with a brief visit to see the progress of the Husum Way development.

Maggie Galliers said how much she enjoyed the visit: “It is always invaluable for me to hear first-hand about the fantastic work of our members, and some of the challenges they face with regeneration and outdated stock”.
