Miyawaki Forest Planting in Kidderminster

Community Housing colleagues planting trees

On Tuesday 1 April, Community Housing colleagues planted our very first Miyawaki Forest, and we certainly had the perfect weather for the occasion!

The Miyawaki Forest Project, otherwise known as a micro forest, led by Gill Mooney, Simon Fairbanks and David Linwood was planted at Usmere Road in Kidderminster, in partnership and funded by Worcestershire County Council from the Coronation Living Heritage Fund.

The project aims to increase biodiversity and improve the area for our customers and local residents.

Colleagues from across the business planted several hundred trees, some of the species included:

  • Betula pendular (Silver Birch)
  • Prunus avium (Wild Cherry)
  • Pinus sylvestris (Scotts Pine)
  • Euonymus europaeus (European spindle)
  • Viburnum opulus (Guelder Rose)
  • Corylus avellana (Common Hazel)
  • Viburnum lantana (Wayfaring Tree)
  • Sorbus aucuparia (Rowan / Mountain Ash)

This is the first of many similar projects we hope to be part of in the future.
