Warm Home Discount Scheme - Save £150

The Warm Home Discount Scheme offers eligible households a one-off £150 discount on their electricity bill. The discount is provided automatically by most energy suppliers to help with energy costs.

The scheme is a government initiative designed to support households on low incomes or receiving certain benefits with the cost of energy during the colder months. The £150 payment is not issued as cash but applied directly to eligible customers’ electricity accounts.

Who qualifies

For those living in England and Wales, you must qualify for a means-tested benefit, as below:

  • Housing Benefit
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA)
  • Income Support
  • The ‘Savings Credit’ part of Pension Credit
  • Universal Credit.

Your energy supplier must also be part of the scheme and either you or your partner's name is on the electricity bill as of 24 August 2025.

How it works:

Eligible households in England and Wales are identified automatically by the Department for Work and Pensions and the energy supplier. Most people do not need to apply.
The discount will appear as a credit on your electricity bill by 31 March 2026.
Those with prepayment or pay-as-you-go meters can still qualify and will receive the discount through a voucher or credit, depending on their supplier.

Checking eligibility

You will receive a letter confirming eligibility between the end October 2025 and January 2026. If you haven't received your letter by mid January, then you can contact the helpline on 0800 030 9322 before 28 February 2026.
