The Asset Management team, in partnership with the Shropshire Green Energy Centre (SGEC), has begun delivering a major retrofit programme on the Habberley estate. Between now and March 2026, 114 bungalows will receive significant energy-efficiency upgrades as part of our commitment to improving homes for our customers.
The project includes the installation of External Wall Insulation (EWI), along with upgraded loft insulation, improved ventilation, and new constant-flow extractor fans in kitchens and bathrooms. These measures will help create warmer homes in winter, cooler homes in summer, and spaces that are more comfortable and healthier to live in.
Importantly, the work is fully funded and supports Community Housing’s progress towards meeting the Government target of achieving EPC grade C or above by 2030.
While EWI has recently attracted some negative media attention, our scheme has been developed and delivered to the highest standards. It is fully architect-designed, approved by the system manufacturer and building control, and fully compliant with PAS 2035.
By combining improved insulation with enhanced ventilation, the project will significantly reduce the risk of damp, mould, and condensation in customers’ homes.
This retrofit programme is an important step in our journey to provide safe, sustainable, and energy-efficient homes for our communities.
